“The thinner, the more aromatic” & the best Vietnamese Oud chip
Through many years of accumulation, Aquilaria Crassna secreted themselves a special kind of resin to heal wounds in their trunk. The resin is hardened, laid interleaved by Aquilaria Crassna’s wood grains then forms Oud (Agarwood) chip.
Oud (Agarwood) chip – the outer bark layer inside the tree trunk. Those trunks which are infected and form Oud (Agarwood) for 2 – 3 years will be harvested, then treated by artisans to clean all the white wood which are not forming Oud (Agarwood) to produce the final product – Oud (Agarwood) chip.
After being harvested, Oud (Agarwood) is separated from other parts of the Aquilaria trunk which is usually called the white wood (or the normal wood). These thin slices of Oud (Agarwood) when there is no white wood attached will become what we call an Oud (Agarwood) chip with thicknesses from 0.5 to 1mm only.

By using some artificial factors to stimulate the tree to create Oud (Agarwood), such as implanting insect nests into the tree trunk, using physical elements to inflict wounds, implant some kinds of chemicals. All these methods are used to create wounds so that the tree must secrete its valuable scented resin to heal itself and then provide humans with the wood that they want.

Only by the skillful hand of Oud (Agarwood) artisans, each and every slot of white wood will be removed by special tools while machine grinding always leave an even surface of white wood, making the chip to be less fragrant.
